The Party's Over (almost)

Well, on Tuesday I officially return to the working world. Its been a very brief off period for me and it felt good. After the last few months in which I was basically tortured in a way that Donald Rumsfeld wouldn't have signed off on, I needed the rest. The good news is that all that hell I went through (Ft. Wayne, IN; Cleveland twice in two weeks; Hartford and then Hartford again; being expected to stay at work until 3:30 am to fix another person's mistakes, etc will get me a nearly free trip to NYC this summer for Sid's wedding.

So have I used the time to better myself or the world? Of course not... I painted a bathroom, I cleaned the carpets, played a lot of video games, and recharged. It's amazing how working 65 hours a week plus travel will make you feel like shit. I started to think that the way I felt was normal. I was constantly tired, spent the weekends on the couch (when I wasn't told I had to work), got the same sickness twice and was then blamed for getting the boss sick. It was a great time. By the time it was over I thought that life was supposed to be depressing and awful.

So now I'm moving onto a new chapter. If this doesn't work out I don't know what the hell will. Maybe I'll give it all up and become a teacher or a landscaper or something like that. I'm sure S would love that.

My advice to any of you who are looking for work right now: take the risk and find the thing you WANT to do. Don't take a job because you have to (if you can avoid it) and do NOT let it destroy your life and health. They'll chew you up and spit you out. There are a lot of other things in life more worth the time and energy. Make your job yours.
